black and white film, 2022

Images taken on the way to and during a trip to North State Hospital in Sedro-Woolley, WA (a former psychiatric hospital, turned public park). The high contrast black and white images are meant to accentuate the ghostly nature of the seemingly abandoned structures and scenes. The soft focus causes the images to read more as illustrations than photographs, also eliciting a callback to fairy tales or Stephen Gammell’s drawings in “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”.
